BIOGRAPHY
Eberhard IV was the eldest son of Hugo I, Graf vom Nordgau, and Hildegard von Pfirt (de Ferrette). He was count of the Nordgau, succeeding his father in 940 together with his brother Hugo. In 959 he returned the abbey of Lure to Emperor Otto I 'the Great'.

Eberhard married Luitgard, widow of Adalbert, who had been killed in battle in 944, and daughter of Wigerich, Graf im Bodgau und Ardennengau, and his wife Kunegund, a grand daughter of Louis II 'the Stammerer', king of West-France. Eberhard and Luitgard's son Hugo V would have progeny.

Eberhard ruled the Nordgau until 951, when he abdicated in favour of his son Hugo V, and retired to his estate of Altorf where he died in 972 or 973.
