BIOGRAPHY
Arnold was the son of Louis II, comte de Chiny, and his wife Sophie. He succeeded his father before 1066.

Arnold was often in conflict with the clergy, particularly Henri, bishop of Liège. In 1084 he tried to capture Richilde, heiress of Hainault, but failed. In 1070 he founded the abbey of Orval with Konrad I, Graf von Luxemburg, but he had to found other religious institutions in atonement for his many crimes.

With his first wife Adèle de Montdidier, daughter of Hidouin IV de Montdidier, comte de Roucy, and Adèle/Alice de Roucy, heiress of Roucy, he had two sons and three daughters of whom two daughters would marry and Otto II would have progeny. His second wife was Ermengard but no progeny was born from this marriage. By his third wife Agnes he fathered one son Albéron, who was bishop of Verdun from 1131 to 1156.

Arnold died on 16 April 1106.
