FlorisIHvan Holland, geb. ca. 1135, graaf van Holland 1157; trouw aanhanger van keizer Frederik I Barbarossa die hij vergezelt op diens tweede tocht naar Italië 1158/59 en waar hij de rijksdag op de Roncalische velden (11-11-1158) bijwoont; ziet zijn aanspraken op Oostergo en Westergo, maar ook die van de bisschop van Utrecht, door de keizer geregeld in een condominium over Westlauwers Friesland Utrecht nov. 1165, waar deze voorts de afvoer van het Rijnwater bij Zwammerdam regelt; raakt in conflict met de Vlaamse kooplieden over zijn tolheffingen, hetgeen leidt tot een strijd met Philips van de Elzas (die hij verliest, waarna hij langdurig te Brugge gevangen wordt gehouden en moet berusten in het Verdrag van Brugge 7-3-1167 dat de situatie in Zeeland bewesten Schelde meer dan een eeuw zal bepalen); ondersteunt de keizer andermaal op diens vijfde Italië-tocht, deelt in de nederlaag bij Legnano 29-5-1176, onderhandelt daarna voor de keizer met Cremona en bezegelt mede de vrede van Venetië 24-7-1177; neemt deel aan de rijksdag in Worms waar het proces tegen Hendrik de Leeuw inzet jan. 1179; ontvangt vermoedelijk dan ook de rijkstol te Geervliet; is herhaaldelijk in strijd met de Westfriezen gewikkeld; maakt een pelgrimage naar Jeruzalem 1184; neemt deel aan de Derde Kruistocht en onderscheidt zich bij de verovering van Iconium, overl. Antiochië 1-8-1190, begr. ald. (St.-Petrus), tr. (waarschijnlijk: 28-8-)1162' Ada van Schotland (Huntingdon), countess of Ross; kiest na de dood van haar oudste zoon (Dirk VII) in de dan uitbrekende 'Loonse Oorlog' de zijde van haar jongere zoon (Willem I) in 1204, overl. 11-1- (vermoedelijk:) 1208, begr. Middelburg, dr. van Henry van Schotland, earl of Northumberland and Huntingdon, en Ada van Varennes.
